Pinwheel will be presenting Zehnder, Agepan, Ampack and Heckel Windows at IIDEX, as part of the Passive House Pavilion. Booth #5843. Come on over and lets talk about passive house and how we can help you make your passive house dreams a reality.
Pinwheel was presenting Agepan and Ampack at the Toronto Wood Solutions Fair. (I'm writing this right after the event. I didn't have any time to promote the even leading up to it, and I didn't know what to expect, as this was out first Wood Solutions Fair). We had some great discussion about healthy walls. See you in 2016 again.
Net Zero Energy Homes and Buildings are quickly capturing the imagination of homeowners, builders, and policy makers alike. But what exactly does it mean to be "Net Zero"?
The Passive House Institute (PHI) in Germany has spent the last few years tackling this question. Their work has confirmed that Energy Efficiency must form the foundation of any Net Zero Energy project. To this end, they have developed new assessment method that addresses sustainable energy supply in the building sector and, based on this, introduced new classifications that build on the proven Passive House Standard and take into account the interdependencies between energy efficiency and renewable energy supply.
Jessica Grove-Smith from PHI will present an in-depth look at these new classifications and how they can be practically achieved in a cost effective manner. The talk will include a demonstration of the software tool developed based on the new sustainability assessment criteria.
Jessica Grove-Smith, Passive House Institute
Jessica Grove-Smith graduated with a master’s degree in physics (MPhys) from the University of Sussex in England. She has been part of the research team at the Passive House Institute in Darmstadt, Germany since 2008. Her responsibilities range from stationary and dynamic energy demand modelling, climate data for energy calculations and hygrothermal simulations of individual building components. The application of the Passive House concept in different climate zones and for indoor swimming pools have also been a main focus of her work, as well as contributions to the renewable primary energy assessment method that is being introduced for the new Passive House classes.
